Q: My insurance company recommended a repair shop they work with; can I still take it to Precision Auto Body for the repairs?

A: You have the right to choose the repair facility of your choice. “Under California Insurance Code §758.5 an insurance company cannot require that an automobile be repaired at a specific repair shop.

However, an insurance company can recommend that an automobile be repaired at a specific repair shop under the following conditions outlined by law:

  • The consumer specifically requests a recommendation from the insurance company to a repair shop.
  • The consumer has been informed in writing of the right to select a repair shop of his or her choice.
  • If the consumer agrees to use the recommended repair shop, the insurance company must restore the damaged vehicle to its condition prior to the accident or loss with no additional cost other than as stated in the policy or as otherwise allowed by law.
  • If the company makes an oral recommendation to a repair shop, and it is accepted by the consumer, then the company must follow the oral recommendation with the prescribed written notice within five calendar days as specified by law.

If the vehicle is repaired at a shop chosen by the consumer, the the insurance company must pay the reasonable costs to repair the vehicle in a workmanlike manner.

The insurance company is prohibited from limiting or discounting reasonable repair costs based on charges that would have occurred if the vehicle had been repaired at the company’s recommended repair shop.  Also, the insurance company must stand behind the repairs of the recommended shop if the vehicle is not repaired properly.

Q: How long is it going to take to have my vehicle repaired?

A: Every repair is different due to unforeseen circumstances; additional damage is sometimes found after the tear down process. We can’t promise you a delivery date but we can give you an estimate completion time. We will keep you up to date on the repair process as changes occur.

Q: Will the color match my existing paint color?

A: Precision Auto Body utilized the latest computerized paint matching system by PPG. A water based formula that will return your car back to pre-accident condition. Our quality and of work is back by PPG with a lifetime warranty for as long as you own the vehicle.

Q: What do I need to bring when I drop off my vehicle?

A: You should bring a copy of the insurance claim information and the person who will authorize the repair. Once the claim number has been created, we can then start work with the insurance company.

Q: How soon can  I see my car after the repairs?

A: You can wash the car right away only by hand and with a mild soap using a soft microfiber cloth, sponge or mitt. Do not use hard brush bristle. Hard brush bristles can damage the paint on a freshly painted panel. Even on a brand new car it is advised to wash the car by hand.

Q: What if I need a rental car?

A: Precision Auto Body works closely with Enterprise and Hertz. If your insurance policy has rental coverage then all you will need is the claim number or policy number for the rental company to do direct billing with your insurance carrier. If paying out of pocket our shop is given a discounted rate by Enterprise. Ask us about our loaner vehicle.

Q: Are there any guarantees on the repair?

A: Precision Auto Body offers a limited lifetime warranty for as long as you own the vehicle.
